2008 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference - Fort Collins, Colorado

Thirteen Louisville Metro Police Explorers attended the 2008 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado from Monday, July 21, 2008 through Saturday, July 26, 2008. The Louisville Metro Police Explorers captured second place in the Arrest and Search Techniques competition, which measured the explorer’s judgment through the use of a practical scenario. The explorers also scored in the top ten percent in the Bomb Threat Response and Burglary in Progress competitions. Each competition consisted of approximately 75 teams of two to four explorers representing their respective explorer programs. The conference was attended by over 3,100 law enforcement explorers from over 325 explorer law enforcement programs. The explorers that attended the conference also attended law enforcement seminars, a law enforcement career fair, and live law enforcement skill demonstrations.

2006 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference - Flagstaff, Arizona

Seventeen Louisville Metro Police Explorers attended the 2006 National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference in Flagstaff, Arizona from Monday, July 10, 2006 through Saturday, July 15, 2006. Explorer Cory Sturgeon placed in the 9mm Pistol Competition Chairman's Top 20 by receiving the tenth place award. Each competition consisted of approximately 75 teams of two to four explorers representing their respective explorer programs. The conference was attended by over 3,900 law enforcement explorers from over 350 explorer law enforcement programs.

2005 Virginia Law Enforcement Explorer Conference - Front Royal, Virginia


Thirteen Louisville Metro Police Explorers attended the 2005 Virginia Law Enforcement Explorer Conference in Front Royal, Virginia from Sunday, August 7, 2005 through Saturday, August 13, 2005. The following explorers captured the following awards.

Explorer Captain Brandon Wood - Overall Top Male Explorer
Explorer Lieutenant Casey Scott - First Runner-up for Top Male Explorer
Explorer Sergeant Billy Goldsmith - Second Runner-up for Top Male Explorer
Explorer Captain Joshua Ballinger - First Place Military Drill Competition
Explorer Craig Probus - First Place Male Physical Agility Course
Explorer Lieutenant Brad Schuhmann - Second Place Male Physical Agility Course

The Louisville Metro Police Explorer Program won more awards than any other program in attendance. The explorers participated in classroom lectures, practical exercises, and individual competitions. The Explorer Program Honor Guard also presented the colors at the awards banquet as well as honoring all fallen law enforcement officers, explorers and military personnel by lighting a memorial candle.


2004 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference - Atlanta, Georgia

Thirteen Louisville Metro Police Explorers attended the 2004 National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from Monday, July 19, 2004 through Saturday, July 24, 2004. The Louisville Metro Police Explorers captured third place in the Shoot Don't Shoot competition, which measured the explorer's judgment through the use of a Firearms Training Simulator. The explorers also scored in the top ten percent in the Crime Prevention competition. Each competition consisted of approximately 75 teams of two to four explorers representing their respective explorer programs. Explorer Brad Schuhmann captured third place in the Beam Hit individual competition. This competition measured shooting accuracy through the use of an automatic pistol modified with a laser that indicates shot placement on an electronic target. The conference was attended by over 3,900 law enforcement explorers from over 350 explorer law enforcement programs.

Sixteen Louisville Metro Police Explorers attended the 2003 Virginia Law Enforcement Explorer Conference in Front Royal, Virginia from Sunday, August 10, 2003 through Saturday, August 16, 2003. The following explorers captured the below listed awards at the conference.
