About Us
The Louisville Metro Police Explorer Program is for young men and women, ages 14 through 19, who are interested in a career in law enforcement. The program provides both classroom instruction and practical exercises that are designed to familiarize participants with law enforcement in general and the Louisville Metro Police Department in particular. The Explorer Program emphasizes community involvement, character development and leadership.
The explorers assist the department at Thunder Over Louisville, Pegasus Parade, Kentucky Oaks & Derby, and various other community events. The Explorer Program provided over 7,900 volunteer hours to the department and the community last year.
Twenty-seven current Louisville Metro Police Officers are products of the Explorer Program.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Louisville Metro Police Department Explorer Program is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to learn about law enforcement by using classroom presentations and practical exercises that focus on the latest crime prevention and crime control methods.The Explorer Program will diligently serve the citizens of Metro Louisville and the Louisville Metro Police Department by active involvement in community initiatives and community events. Explorers shall perform their duties with honesty, sound judgment and respect for the rights of individuals.
